Yeah I love 70s J-tin. They look fantastic, too bad the steel and rust protection wasn’t up to modern standards.

Yep does not surprise me at all given my experience with my Japanese colleagues back in the day. Generous, kind and possessing an incredible ability to party. Good thing I was still young.

I have been debating a $2,000 CAD (asking price)‘73 Mitsu / Dodge Colt (Plymouth Cricket to me, in Canada) for a month now. It’s rusty but might be worth the risk. Not much looks right through based on pictures. This one here .

That’s steep depending on where it is for a non-runner. I’d probably import something cool from Japan directly since you can bring in 15 year old cars. Tons of cool keis, and standard cars that would be just above that price point. Really depends where you are though - if you’re in PEI, a not very rusty rescuable 70s japcar is probably worth at least a grand, but out west it’s just not desirable enough of a beast to throw $2K at. There’s lots of decent runners for that price here in Seattle, even with the exchange. Probably similar story in BC.

Better do it. I bet they’ll take less once they realize that you share their illness.

Another pro tip: if you make friends with guys with welders they will often do simple patch jobs for you in exchange for beer and/or fixing their cars.
